One of the biggest ways to frustrate me is to say “I want a lot of website traffic!” You can get a blog, get a lot of traffic, but not a single set of eyeballs are remotely your client type! When people share their social media on Linkedin with other therapists, they get an increase in traffic but none of those far away therapists will ever see YOU for therapy, nor are they likely to have a prospective client in your neighborhood to make a referral to you.
My husband recently added new content to his website (I wrote and he tweaked.) And wouldn’t you know in just a few days he received ONE click for ONE phrase that is superior to many others….it was the term infidelity, marriage counseling and his suburb! That person may or may not have called him, but the point is that phrase probably has just a handful of searches a year, but those few people want EXACTLY what he offers, and his website does a great job converting people into clients.
The few SEO Therapy tips for today then are:
Make sure every page lists not just your office town, but all the (reasonable!) neighboring towns, or nicknames for your area
Make sure you spell out the issues you most enjoy working with. ”Marriage problems” for example is not as clear as infidelity, communication problems, sex, parenting…”
If you don’t have a blog, don’t start. See if you can first build high quality content, even if it’s just 3-4 paragraphs, on its own page on your website, for one specific problem you deal with. The more you can practice writing and the more information you provide on your “static website” the more likely you will be to convert web visitors. If you have all your best stuff on your blog you WILL be losing clients. Blog readers are generally a different type of person than a therapy seeker.
Make sure behind the scenes every page has your location and the issue/s you deal with… in the “meta title” area of the website, if you have access to that area. The key is every page title and description has to be different. Too many therapists put their name, location, and title like “Marriage Counselor.” Every page needs to say what that exact page is about so that page can rank high.
